Adam Adli & Hishamuddin Rais Arrested For Flying Sang Suka Malaya Flag during Malaysia Independence Day Celebrations

KUALA LUMPUR: Student activist Adam Adli Abd Halim and social activist Hishamuddin Rais were arrested this evening for allegedly flying the Sang Saka Malaya flags during Merdeka Day eve celebrations.

The two were picked up at the same location at Jalan Raja Alang in Kampung Baru here at 8.40pm while on their way to a political event.
This was confirmed by Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah.
“They are now on the way to Dang Wangi police headquarters as we speak.
"They are being detained under the Sedition Act and Section 505B of the Penal Code for statement conducing to public mischief," he told the New Straits Times.

The two would be questioned on the YouTube clip that has been circulating on social media sites which showed national laureate A. Samad Said reciting poetry and a man charging onto the stage and grabbing a few Sang Saka Malaya flags placed nearby on the eve of Merdeka Day at Dataran Merdeka.

Adam and Hishamuddin, known for their anti-government stunts, were also seen holding the flag in the video.
The Sang Saka Malaya is a red-and-white flag with 12 yellow stars set in four columns reportedly proposed as Malaya's national flag by an association in the 1940s.
