APPLE IS THE WORLD'S BEST BRAND, TAKING OVER FROM COCA COLA WHO CAME OUT THIRD AFTER GOOGLE

Apple unseats Coca-Cola as world's 'best brand'

PARIS: Coca-Cola has lost its crown as the world’s best brand, a closely watched survey said on Monday, unseated by the iconic iPhone and iPad maker Apple.

This marks the first time the soft drink missed the top spot on the “best  global brand report”, a line-up created in 2000 by marketing consultancy  Interbrand, a unit of the Omnicom advertising conglomerate.
“Every so often, a company changes our lives — not just with its products,  but with its ethos,” said Jez Frampton, Interbrand’s chief executive.
“This is why, following Coca-Cola’s 13-year run at the top of Best Global  Brands, Apple now ranks #1,” he said.
In fact, Coca-Cola dropped two places in 2013, also losing to Google, the  search engine, which came in second place.
Apple has always been on the list, beginning at #36 in 2000, but has slowly  climbed the ranks.
But Interbrand warned Apple needed to keep a close eye on archrival Samsung  (#9), especially on the crucial smartphone market.
“To maintain its number one position over the next year, Apple will have to  slow rival Samsung’s momentum in the mobile market and never lose sight of what  it does best: ’Think different’,” the consultancy said.
According to Interbrand, the Apple brand is worth 98.31 billion, a 28  percent rise from the previous year with the Google brand weighing in at 93.29  billion.    Computing giants IBM and Microsoft fill out the top five.
Meanwhile, some recent rising stars have now lost their lustre.
Blackberry, the embattled phone maker, has disappeared from the list  completely and Nokia, once the mobile phone leader, tumbled from 13th place to  a lowly 57.
Social network Facebook meanwhile jumped to the 52 spot from 69.    AFP

7 Judges Elevated to Federal Court & Court of Appeal

PUTRAJAYA: Judges must increase the quality of their judgements to maintain the public's confidence in the judiciary, says Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria.

"I must stress the importance of judges preparing detailed grounds of judgement based on just and solid principles of law," said the top judge.
Arifin stressed that it was especially important for Federal and Court of Appeal judges as their decisions were binding for the lower courts.
He also urged judges not to deny parties their right to be heard in court, in the name of a prompt resolution.
"I don't want to hear any more complaints about judges losing their patience, just to speed up the disposal of cases," said Arifin, in his speech at an elevation ceremony at the Palace of Justice, here.
He said the criteria for appointment of judges included accomplishments in resolving cases, quality of judgements, integrity, knowledge in the law, capabilities in the field judicial administration, professional experience and deliver of judgements.

"The judges appointed today (Monday) meet the requirements as per the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009. This amply proves that the appointment of a judge doesn't rely solely on their seniority," he said.

On Monday, three Court of Appeal judges were elevated to the apex court.
They are Datuk Seri Mohamed Apandi Ali, 63, Datuk Seri Abu Samah Nordin, 62, and Datuk Ramly Ali, 60.
Four High Court judges were also sworn in to the Court of Appeal, including Datuk Seri Zakaria Sam, 61, Datuk Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, Datuk Umi Kalthum Abdul Majid, 59, and Datuk Varghese George Varughese.

AARON AZIZ ALIVE AND WELL AFTER SKIING ACCIDENT

Aaron Aziz Dead? Actor Becomes Victim of Internet Death Hoaxaaron aziz

Aaron Aziz is the victim of a death hoax.(Photo : Wikimedia)
Aaron Aziz is dead. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the Singaporean actor didn't die. He's just the victim of an Internet death hoax. Aaron Aziz is just fine.
A report surfaced this week saying that Aziz died in a snowboarding accident. Global Associated News reported "Actor Aaron Aziz is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today - September 29, 2013. The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Aaron Aziz lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.

Aaron Aziz was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death."
Since there are so many details to the story, it might be easy to believe that it's real. However the report is false. Global Associated News is a generator that is used to create fake news reports.
A message at the bottom of the site reads: "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"
Despite the story being false, some took to Twitter to mourn and question the death of the actor. Some examples of tweets include:
"Is it true that aaron aziz died?!"
"For real ah Aaron Aziz died?!"
"Is aaron aziz really dead?!"
"Aaron Aziz dead?! Nooooooooo D':"

MARRIAGE PROPOSAL COUPLE WHOSE VIDEO WENT VIRAL, HAVE A FIGHTER OF A BABY!

Baby Jude makes it against all odds

Jude Maximus Tiah aka Fighter
Jude Maximus Tiah aka Fighter
THE STAR
EXCLUSIVE: KUALA LUMPUR: You may remember Timothy Tiah and Audrey Ooi as the couple in the meme proposal video that went viral on social media in 2011.

The video received worldwide acclaim - with millions of comments, shares, views and media coverage came pouring in.

Celebrities such as Ryan Seacrest, Guy Kawasaki and Christina Perri (whose song ‘A Thousand Years’ was used in the meme proposal video) even shared the video to their fan base. It wasn’t long till the video received a whopping 3 million views on Youtube.

The couple got married in 2012, and a few months after the wedding the couple received another unexpected surprise: a positive pregnancy test.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0s6FhQYCyA

“Audrey has a medical condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It’s the most common reason for infertility in women and even if the woman gets pregnant there’s a chance that she’ll get a miscarriage,” said Timothy, the co-founder of the ad-blogging site Nuffnang.

“I was prepared for the possibility of not having children,” said the 29-year-old.

The overjoyed couple nicknamed the little baby growing inside of Audrey’s belly Fighter because they believed that he went against all odds to be brought into this world.

Audrey holds on to Jude days after the delivery
However, complications arose when Audrey went for a routine check-up 28 weeks into her pregnancy.

“It was just a regular check-up; they did the normal tests like taking my blood pressure, which was a bit high at that point. But I didn’t really think much about it,” said Audrey.

“My blood pressure was apparently much higher normal, it was 130/90. Normally it’s super low, like 90/50, so it was quite a big increase,” said the 28-year-old.

They asked Audrey to take a urine test and confirmed that she had preeclampsia when they found protein in her urine.

Preeclampsia is a life-threatening medical condition that affects around 5% of pregnant women. It is characterized by high blood pressure and high protein levels in urine of pregnant women.

In severe cases, preeclampsia can cause seizures, strokes, and blindness and can even affect the mother’s organs which can result in the death of the mother and/or baby.

The only way to cure preeclampsia is to deliver the baby. However, Audrey was only 28 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed and Fighter was too underdeveloped to be born. So the doctor aimed to control Audrey’s blood pressure to delay the delivery as long as possible so that Fighter would be born a healthy baby.

Audrey remained in hospital for a day, and was released when her blood pressure went down to around 120. But the doctor told them to keep monitoring Audrey's blood pressure at home.

Unfortunately, Audrey had to be readmitted to the hospital a few hours later after her blood pressure spiked to 160.

“I was in the hospital for three weeks and during that time I celebrated my one year wedding anniversary with my husband and also delivered my baby,” said Audrey.

During Audrey’s stay in the hospital, her blood pressure was constantly monitored and being controlled by medication.

“But every few days my doctor had to up the dosage. This was to make sure I was stable enough to keep the baby inside of me longer because he was still so premature,” said Audrey.

Audrey’s condition got worse over the few weeks she was in hospital.
“There was one time where I started bleeding. I just went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was fresh blood. After that, I started having contractions and I was going into labour,” recalled Audrey.

She was rushed to the labour room where her contractions were coming in four minute intervals, and at that point her blood pressure spiked to 200.

“They were afraid that the baby was going to come out, so the doctor injected me with steroids which are supposed to help develop the baby’s lungs. They also changed my medication to help stop my contractions, but it didn’t really work,” she said.

Audrey’s contractions slowed and were coming every 10 minutes, which was still quite regular. So the doctor decided to sedate Audrey to help her relax her uterine muscles and stop the contractions.

Timothy said that it was during Audrey’s sedation when he felt the most vulnerable.

“She was really sleepy and couldn’t really speak to me. So suddenly I felt like I was alone, that was a moment of weakness for me,” said Tim.

But thankfully, when Audrey awoke, the bleeding and contractions  stopped. Over the next few days after the scary incident, Audrey started putting on a lot of water weight, a side effect of the medication she was taking.

“I was putting on 1kg every day but it was all water! I was so heavy that I couldn’t really walk and I couldn’t sit up straight,” she said.

“My limbs were swollen, my jaw was swollen, even my eyes were so swollen I could barely open them! By then I was only just over 7 months pregnant,” she added.

Audrey said she couldn't sleep well because she had problems breathing, and it was suspected that some water got into her lungs.

The morning of her son’s birth, her doctor took one look at her and said that they couldn't put it off any longer and they had to deliver Fighter.

“The doctor saw that my face was bright red, and my pulse was racing and I was puffing although all I was doing was lying on the bed,” said Audrey.

“They plugged me all full of intravenous needles and the first thing they did was transfer me magnesium sulphate,” she said.

Seizures are very common in preeclampsia so the drug is to prevent Audrey from going into fits and also to stabilize the baby’s brain since he is a premature baby.

“The magnesium sulphate was so horrible! First I started feeling hot, then my forearm started aching.  It felt like someone was hammering my entire forearm. Then I vomited all over,” said Audrey.

The nurses cleaned her up and brought her to the operating theatre for her emergency caesarean.

“I remember the first time I heard my baby cry. It was a very different cry, kind of like a little kitten. It wasn't painful to the ears. It was a very small sound,” said Timothy.

“For the first 20 seconds I didn't want to look, because I was afraid that something was wrong,” revealed Timothy.

“Then the doctor asked me why I haven’t looked at my son, so I turned and looked at him, and he was the smallest baby I have ever seen! He was only around six inches long,” said Timothy.

Audrey and Timothy named their newborn Jude Maximus Tiah. He was a premature baby born and 31 weeks and only weighed 1.13kg.

After Jude’s birth, Audrey remained in the hospital for another week because her blood pressure was still high (it can sometimes take a while for the blood pressure to go down to normal levels) and lost almost 10kg of water weight during that period.

But baby Jude remained in the hospital for another five weeks. He recently got discharged a few weeks ago and is doing well at home with Audrey and Timothy.

Reflecting upon her recent experience, Audrey said that they were very lucky to have a great doctor and praised the medical staff for looking after her and Jude.

When asked about whether they would have more children, Timothy answered: "Yes, I want another three!"

DBKL & Immigration Put An End To "Happy Ending" Services

No more happy endings

PETALING JAYA: The massage parlour boom will soon come to an end as the City Hall (DBKL) and Immigration department plan to freeze the permits to run such businesses.

City Hall deputy director-general Datuk Amin Nordin said he and his team have already frozen the permits in certain areas in Kuala Lumpur and will be studying other areas and work towards halting any further development of such businesses.

"Some of the areas where the permits have been frozen include Endah Parade,Taman Rimbunan in Kepong, Jalan Bukit Bintang and more recently Desa Sri Hartamas and Endah Parade in Cheras.

"We are working on setting limitations on the opening of such premises around KL, and these limitations are dependent on the area itself," he said adding that an example would be that an area like Hartamas should not have no more than five parlours in a radius of 10km.

Amin said that DBKL actually permits parlours for foot and body reflexology only.

"Any premise found to be providing any 'extraordinary' services will have their permits revoked and/or have their deposits seized, then brought to court and imposed a compound of no more than RM2,000. Such premises will not be allowed to reopen.

"Basically we are looking to bring the growth of this particular service to an end in the country," he added.

Immigration deputy director (enforcement) Saravana Kumar said the workers who come into the country to work in massage parlours  were approved under the service sector for reflexology services.

"However, we have frozen the approval for such permits as there have been many such cases where the social passes were abused," he said.

Saravana added that though the issuance of the permit is under the local council and the Tourism Ministry, with the Ops 6P the immigration and the local authorities also get involved.

He explained in a statement that immigrants caught servicing in such parlours will be charged under Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (2007).

With the growth of the massage business in Malaysia, there have been countless reports on people being offered 'special services' and 'happy ending' massages.

Businessman Pridif Naidu, 30, said the plan of the authorities to put an end to the growth of this business is a great move.

"There can be so many massage parlours condensed in one area, making it seem like it is a hub for indecent activities.

"With the action from the authorities however, the neigbourhood will be able to redeem a better image for itself," he said.

Accountant Wee Chun Wei, 33, said he feels it is not necessary to eradicate the business altogether.

"I do not see the business as a harm to the community, In fact I see it as an attraction for tourists and a revenue medium for the nation," he said.

Chun Wei suggested that the authorities can introduce methods to keep track of the activities going on in such parlours to avoid any 'hanky-panky' business.

Warna-warni bulu pelepah burung merak itulah cantik,
