SEPANG: Chinese President Xi Jinping today departed for Cambodia after completing a three-day state visit to Malaysia.

The Air China plane carrying Xi and his delegation departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 10.04 am.

The 1st Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Honorary) provided a guard of honour for Xi in conjunction with the farewell ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan were also present to bid farewell to the delegation.

The Chinese President's farewell ceremony was also enlivened with performances of traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian music by the Arjunasukma Academy from Gombak.

Adding to the atmosphere were the band performances from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Yu Hua, Kajang; Sekolah Seri Puteri, Cyberjaya; and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Central Band.

Various songs were performed, including local songs such as Rasa Sayang and Wau Bulan, Shake It Off, Setia, as well as traditional Dabus Dance performances.

President Xi began his state visit on Tuesday at the invitation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.

This visit is Xi's second official visit to Malaysia in 12 years, following his first visit in 2013 which saw the two countries upgrade diplomatic relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Yesterday, Xi was given a state welcome, followed by a meeting with Sultan Ibrahim at the Istana Negara and attending a state banquet with His Majesty.

In a bilateral meeting at the Seri Perdana Complex on Wednesday, Anwar and Xi discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest.

The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of 31 documents, including Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), agreements and notes of understanding between Malaysia and China. The ceremony was followed by an official banquet hosted by Anwar to celebrate Xi's visit.

The visit is part of the Chinese President's series of visits to three Southeast Asian countries, which has previously taken him to Vietnam. This is his first series of country visits this year.

As the ASEAN Chair and the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between ASEAN and China through dialogue, mutual trust, and people-focused initiatives.

Malaysia and China established diplomatic relations on May 31, 1974 and commemorated the 50th anniversary of that achievement last year.

Since 2009, China has remained Malaysia's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years.

In 2024, total trade between the two countries will be worth RM484.12 billion, comprising 16.8 percent of Malaysia's total global trade of RM2.88 trillion.
