PETALING JAYA: Police have detained more than 4,000 people, mostly gangsters in the last two weeks, following the launch of special nationwide crackdown on crime.
The operation, code named Ops Cantas Khas, have seen police using all its resources in the nationwide blitz since Aug 17.
Bukit Aman anti-vice, gambling and secret societies’ division head Senior Asst Comm Datuk Jalil Hassan said police have detained 4,777 people in the operation conducted around the country in the last two weeks.
He revealed that police have profiled 139,342, people since the start of the special operation.
“Our priority is gang members.
“Those detained were from the various gangs, whose names were revealed recently,” he said when contacted yesterday.
During the period, police also recovered 136 stolen vehicles, including 75 cars, after checking 84,011 vehicles during roadblocks and raids conducted throughout the operation.
SAC Jalil said police seized eight firearms, including six home made rifles, one hand grenade and 54 bullets.
Other weapons, totalling 133, including 50 knives, one stun gun, 18 swords, and 37 machetes were also seized.
On the possibility of a strike back from the gangsters following the crackdown and the revelation of their names and logos, SAC Jalil said police would not be deterred.
“We still have some work to do, thus we must remain vigilant,” he said.
