MALAYSIAN HUSBAND WHO BEAT WIFE IN LIFT CHARGED IN COURT

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A veterinary officer Mohammad Affandi Ismail, 36, claimed trial in a Magistrate's Court on Friday to voluntarily causing hurt to his wife, also aged 36

He denied committing the offence at around 4pm on Aug 12 at the KPJ Hospital in Bandar Perda.

The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a maximum one-year jail term or RM2,000 maximum fine or both.
Magistrate Arif Mohamad Shariff set bail at RM5,000 and fixed Sept 12 for mention.
The accused was not represented while DPP Suhaimi Ibrahim prosecuted.

The accused, who arrived at the court house at 2.58pm, was seen smiling while being led to the court room.

He was dressed in a striped polo shirt, jeans and sandals.

Six policemen were present in the courtroom as the charge was read out to him.

The accused is believed to be the man allegedly beating his wife in an elevator with his two children present.

The video footage has gone viral on Facebook.

UPDATE - August 15, 2013

The man who allegedly beat up his wife in a lift in Bukit Mertajam recently, has surrendered to the police in Kuantan today.


Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the 36-year-old civil servant had voluntarily 'turned himself in' and would be transferred to Penang tomorrow.
In Kuantan, T.N. Alagesh reported the police had confirmed the man, a civil servant in Jerantut, had turned himself at Kuantan district police headquarters at 4.30pm.
As for the man's wife, the 36-year-old factory worker said she felt so relieved after learning that her husband was in police custody.
"I feel more secure my husband has surrendered," she said when contacted by the NST earlier.


She also thanked the police for obtaining an Interim Protection Order to safeguard her safety and hoped that the case would be solved as soon as possible.

Police are on the lookout for a 36-year-old civil servant who had allegedly beat up his wife in a lift last Monday.

The man's act was caught on camera and has since gone viral on YouTube and Facebook.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Mazlan Kesah said the woman, a 36-year-old factory worker, sustained injuries to her head, body and her arms. The case will be investigated under Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt.
