Ex Wife of Sarawak CM - Taib Mahmud Son, Files Divorce Settlement Claim Totalling More Than Half A Billion

Ex-wife of Sarawak CM's son tells court husband had child with mistress

KUALA LUMPUR: The former daughter-in-law of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud told a Syariah High Court here Tuesday that her former husband was unfaithful before they divorced two years ago.

Shahnaz A. Majid, 49, said Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir failed to provide her conjugal rights for 10 years.
"He was not fair to me," she testified in the trial of her RM100mil claim as a divorced settlement.

Shahnaz also filed an application to get RM300mil in matrimonial property as a divorce settlement.

She is also claiming 50% of all assets owned by Mahmud, including luxury cars, houses in various locations, land in Sarawak and shares.

Questioned by her lawyer Akbardin Abdul Kader, she said she got to know about the relationship between Mahmud and an Australian woman when he brought her to attend his sister's wedding in Kuching, Sarawak, around 2000.

"He has a son with the woman, whose name is Louise Hiley. I am not sure whether he married her," said the older sister of singer Datuk Sheila Majid.

Shahnaz said she later found out from The Peek magazine in its September, 2002, issue that Mahmud also married a Russian woman Elena Vasilenko.

"Mahmud and Vasilenko even came to my house to invite our son to go out," she said.

Responding to another question, she said Mahmud had also abused her physically and emotionally.

The couple were married on Jan 9, 1992 and divorced on May 11 , 2011. They have a son, who was born in 1993.

Shahnaz was represented by Dr Rafir Mohd Shafir and Akbardin while Mahmud by Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar and Saadiah Din.

The trial before Syarie judge Muhamad Abdul Karim Wahab continues on Sept 2.
