Federal Police Narcotics Department Arrest 1911 Suspects Including Gang Members

Narcotics department arrests nearly 2,000 during ops


KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Aman Narcotics department has arrested nearly 2,000 people, including 30 gang members involved in drug trafficking, as it stepped up theOps Cantas Khas crime crackdown.

The 30 caught in the operation, dubbed Ops Cantas Narkotik carried out nationwide from Aug 23 to 25 are members of Gang 04, Gang 08, Gang 555, Gang Raj and Gang 18.
Narcotics Department director Comm Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said: “We were focused on nabbing drug pushers as well as addicts during the special operation.
“We received information that certain gangs are involved in trafficking and fighting over territories.”
He told a press conference in Bukit Aman here yesterday that 1,911 people were arrested in the operation.
Narcotics officers seized 10.4kg of heroin, 6.7kg of syabu, 778gm of ganja and 1,097 Erimin 5 pills, he added.
Comm Noor Rashid said the department seized RM185.71mil worth of drugs in multiple raids between January and July this year.
“The largest amounts of drugs seized were heroin (524.3kg), ganja (475kg) and syabu (398.4kg).
“We detained 2,430 drug pushers, who accounted for some 30% of the 7,714 people arrested during the period,” he said.
“They include 2,348 foreigners who were also detained for drug-related offences.”
He added that RM56.69mil worth of assets belonging to drug syndicates were seized under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
Comm Noor Rashid said that international syndicates busted in the country this year included traffickers from Mongolia, Nigeria, Iran and Hong Kong.
Commenting on the recent spate of shooting cases, Comm Noor Rashid said that some drug syndicates used firearms, and the department had seized 153 weapons between 2010 and 2013 during its raids
