ROM: Pope Francis has been diagnosed with pneumonia, according to a Vatican statement on Tuesday, the German News Agency (dpa) reported.
The 88-year-old leader has been hospitalized in Rome since Friday with a respiratory infection and the Vatican said his condition was still "complex".
Over the past few weeks, he has rarely left his residence in the Vatican. In fact, when attending a public event, he seemed to be gasping and unable to speak for long. As Benedict XVI's successor, he has held the position since March 2013, making him the second-oldest Pope in history.
