NARATHIWAT: A total of 25 people, including three volunteers, were injured in a motorcycle bomb explosion in front of the Weng Defence Volunteer Security Control Post yesterday afternoon.
Police chief Weng Col. Pol. Heraman Chedee said the incident occurred at 7.15pm local time, when a bomb believed to have been planted on a motorcycle parked about 700 metres from the Weng Police Station exploded.
"As a result of checking the CCTV (closed-circuit camera) footage, the suspect was seen carrying a motorcycle modified with a homemade bomb before placing it in front of the volunteer security checkpoint. "The suspect then fled with a friend on another motorcycle five minutes before the bomb exploded," Heraman said when contacted by Bernama on Saturday.
Heraman said the blast injured 22 civilians and three volunteers, as well as damaging several motorcycles parked near the scene.
"The police are actively tracking down the individuals or groups involved in this attack," he said.
