KUALA LUMPUR : Individuals positive for COVID-19 will no longer be given a Surveillance and Observation Order (HSO) or home quarantine instructions effective July 15.

The Ministry of Health (KKM) in a statement informed that individuals who have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 are only encouraged to wear face masks, minimize social interaction and avoid crowded places.

In fact, added the statement, positive individuals will also be treated the same as patients with other respiratory tract infections.

According to him, the new regulations came into force after the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths showed a decrease and no new variant was detected in Malaysia until now.

"However, individuals positive for COVID-19 can seek further examination and treatment at a nearby health facility if symptoms persist or worsen.

"The granting of a sick leave certificate and referral to hospital (if necessary) is based on the assessment of the treating medical officer," he said in a statement on Friday.

Adding to that statement, so far the variant that is spreading in Malaysia is the Omicron variant with its subvariants consisting of Variant of Concern (VOC), Variant Of Interest (VOI) and Variant Under Monitoring (VUM).

In addition, even though the country is entering the transition phase of living with COVID-19, the Ministry of Health will constantly monitor the latest situation of COVID-19 at the global and domestic level.

The three indicators that are monitored are new cases of COVID-19, deaths and hospitalizations of COVID-19 cases.
