KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) – A Muslim woman’s concern about  not being able to afford to send her youngest son, who is now 12 years old, for

circumcision, has been resolved through a programme organised by an association of Muslim doctors, Pertubuhan Doktor–Doktor Islam Malaysia (PERDIM), and a

non-governmental organisation known as Pertubuhan Jejak Jalanan.

Aliyatul Hisman, 46, said her son, Muhammad Nur Firdaus Nabinoh,  should have gone through the procedure last year, as required by the “sunnah” (traditions and

practices of Prophet Muhammad SWT), but due to financial constraints she had to postpone it.

"Firdaus is scared as he is getting older, and I can't afford the cost because if you go to a private clinic, it can reach up to RM450.

"My husband is no longer working. Alhamdulillah, through Pertubuhan Jejak Jalanan, my son managed to get circumcised,” she said when met by Bernama, recently.

Besides Muhammad Nur Firdaus, the programme, sponsored by PERDIM, benefitted seven other children and two adult converts from the poor and asnaf (eligible to

receive tithe) in Chow Kit here.

PERDIM president Dr Boi Saidi Abdul Razak said the initiative was implemented to help the asnaf and poor families in Chow Kit, as well as create awareness,

especially among Muslim families, on the circumcision obligation for men.

"Previously, we have provided free health checks for this group and found that most of them have skin diseases. We also found that many boys here have not yet

been circumcised, so we took the initiative to provide free circumcision to them," he said.

According to Dr Boi Saidi, the cost of circumcision at a private clinic is RM180 to RM250 for children, while for adults it is between RM500 and RM800.

"This initiative for the underprivileged is a form of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the needy,” he added.
