KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is still in the test drive or proof of concept (POC) stage before the decision on the purchase of BMW M3 and Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles is finalized.
According to the Inspector -General of Police, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Bukit Aman is currently testing five BMW M3 and Volkswagen Tiguan cars for two weeks.
"PDRM is currently only using the car for two weeks as a trial without any agreement.
"The purpose is for us to get feedback on whether the use of this vehicle is suitable or not for any assignment in the PDRM," he said when contacted.
He commented on the matter following the dissemination of photos of five units of luxury vehicles such as BMW and Volkswagen, which are already equipped with PDRM vehicle accessories.
Meanwhile, Berita Harian quoted the Director of the Bukit Aman Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA), Datuk Hazani Ghazali as reporting that the vehicle would be used by the KDNKA Department, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) and escort branches.
According to Hazani, PDRM is also aware of the financial constraints experienced by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic but the offer given by the company is only for a test drive.
