Part -time model driving against the flow of traffic that caused a death was sentenced to five years in prison
Ng Pei Ven was sentenced to five years in prison and fined RM18,000 after being found guilty of driving against the flow of traffic that resulted in the death of a factory technician four years ago. -
BUTTERWORTH: The Butterworth High Court upheld the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court's decision to sentence her to five years in prison and a fine of RM18,000
The decision was made by Judge Datuk Ahmad Amirudin Abd Rahman after dismissing the appeal of Ng Pei Ven, 23, regarding the sentence she faces today.
Ahmad Amirudin rejected the appeal submitted by the woman as the prosecution could prove the essence of the charge against the accused.
The accused who at the time of the incident was driving a Proton Gen2 car was charged with reckless driving resulting in the death of technician Mohamad Fandi Rosli.
Ahmad Amirudin also informed that the appellant's appeal was also rejected after the prosecution confirmed that the decision of the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court against the appellant was in accordance with the law and not extreme.
He said the offense committed by the appellant was very serious for driving against the flow which could endanger the lives of others.
Apart from the jail sentence and fine being maintained, Ahmad Amirudin also upheld the decision to revoke the appellant's probationary driving license.
Pei Ven was then sent to the Seberang Perai Prison Complex in Jawi, Nibong Tebal to serve her prison sentence starting today after her father finished paying the fine.
The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ainy Suhailah Yunus while the accused was represented by lawyer, Cheah Eng Soon.
In June last year, the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court sentenced her to five years in prison and a fine of RM18,000 after the accused was found guilty of driving against the current resulting in the death of a factory technician.
However, the court allowed the accused's application to stay the execution of the sentence while the appeal was heard in the High Court.
The court also increased the bail from RM7,000 to RM12,000.
In the incident on March 14, 2017, the victim died after the Perodua Kelisa car he was driving collided with a Pei Ven vehicle driven against the flow of traffic at Kilometer 134, near Permatang Pauh..
