The issue of the sudden increase in flight ticket prices to Sabah, Sarawak will be brought to the Dewan Rakyat - Kelvin Yii

KUALA LUMPUR: The sharp increase in the price of flight tickets from the peninsula to Sabah and Sarawak has burdened many parties, including frontline workers who return to work and members of the public who want to visit their families.
According to Kuching City Member of Parliament, Kelvin Yii, he received many complaints that the return ticket price increased to RM3,000 from the original price of around RM300 to RM500 previously.
Following that, he said the matter would be brought to the Dewan Rakyat to urge the government to control this sharp price increase.
"The lack of flights may be a factor in this sharp increase even though the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) has announced an increase in the number of flights starting October 1, 2021.
"This matter should be taken into consideration by the state government not only to strengthen the tourism sector in the state but also to facilitate the return of students studying in the state as educational institutions have started to reopen," he said.
Apart from that, he said, this increase not only affected small and medium enterprises (SMEs) but also businesses and customers.
Among others, with the rumors of the implementation of the 12th Sarawak State Election (PRN) in the near future, all efforts must be mobilized to facilitate the return of the state citizens who return to vote.
"This is one of the reasons why I urge the Ministry of Transport and JPBN Sarawak to find a solution and reach an agreement through discussions with all stakeholders.
"This includes the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM), the Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM) and Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB) as well as other stakeholders to resolve this issue," he added.
