Firefighters were attacked after allegedly arriving late to put out the blaze
LAWAS: A firefighter was injured after being attacked by a man in an incident in Kampung Belipat, Jalan Punang in Lawas, Sarawak on Saturday.
In the incident, the member who was part of a team who was putting out the fire at a single-storey house was punched by a man from behind.
Another man scolded the fire brigade for arriving late.
Following the incident, the firefighters who were lightly injured lodged a police report on Saturday.
Sarawak Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue, Tiong Ling Hii, who confirmed the incident, said his department would issue a statement regarding the incident today.
Earlier, the Lawas Fire and Rescue team received an emergency call regarding the fire at 3.18pm.
Seven Firefighters then rushed to a location located six kilometers from the hall.
By the time firefighters arrived, Ling Hii said, most of the non -permanent structured houses had been destroyed.
"Fire break" work is then done in addition to the ' receo ' technique to prevent the fire from spreading.
Four members of the family who rented the house managed to save themselves.
The cause of the incident and the amount of losses are being investigated.
