Man jailed five months for assaulting FoodPanda delivery rider

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Sept 2 -- A 33-year-old man, who is also a private college student, was sentenced to five months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to injuring a food delivery rider early last month.

Judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin, who acted as magistrate in the case, meted out the punishment on Ang Tung Lin and ordered the sentence to be served from the date of arrest on Aug 7.

Ang, who was unrepresented, was accused of intentionally causing hurt to food delivery rider Muhammad Muzammil Abdullah, 34, at Lorong Sri Impian 8, Alma, Bukit Mertajam at 11.05 am on Aug 6.




He was charged under section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum one-year imprisonment or maximum RM2,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, in a separate Magistrate’s Court, Ang pleaded not guilty to two more charges before Magistrate Sri Pracha Nanthini Balabedha.

The first of the two was under section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace against Muhammad Muzammil at the same time and place.



The offence carries a maximum punishment of two years’ jail or a fine, or both.

The other was under Section 186 of the same act for obstructing Inspector Mohd Hafizul Mohamad Azizan, in carrying out his duties at a hotel in Lorong Seri Impian 2, Taman Seri Impian, Alma near here at 10 pm on Aug 7.

He faces imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both, if convicted.


Ang was allowed bail of RM4,000 with one surety for each of the three charges, after which the court fixed Sept 29 for mention of the case.
