KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister has announced the appointment of Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin as the new chairman of Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) while Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas).
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a statement today said the appointments will take effect on July 1, 2020.
At the same time, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Wan Zulkiflee for his 37 years with the national petroleum company.
He also believes the MAB will be able to restructure and grow as a resilient and sustainable national carrier with good governance.
Earlier reports indicate that Wan Zulkiflee, affectionately called Wan Zul, resigned from Petronas after five years of helming the company.
During his tenure, he faced a major challenge when oil prices plunged below US$30 per barrel.
