MACC detains Johor Islamic Religious Department employee

JOHOR BAHRU, June 16 -- An assistant officer of the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) has been detained by the Segamat branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today believed over soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to more than RM130,000.

The 37-year-old woman was held at the Johor MACC office at about 3 pm to assist investigation.

According to sources, investigations found the suspect had been seeking gratifications from several contractors to obtain supply works at JAINJ.

The case was investigated under Section 16(a) (B) of the MACC Act 2009 which provides for a fine five times the amount of bribes or RM10,000 which ever is higher and jail not exceeding 20 years upon conviction.

State MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias when contacted, confirmed the arrest.
