KILINOCHCHI, Sri Lanka (ANN): Police here raided a safe house operated by a prominent LTTE member in Ambalamkulam and recovered a haul of explosives and firearms last Friday (Oct 11).

The 36-year-old LTTE member, Joseph Peter Robinson, has not undergone rehabilitation.


He was arrested by the army near the Kiliweddi bridge in the Serunuwara police area with a T-56 assault rifle and handed over to the Kilinochchi police for further investigations on the same day.

Acting on information elicited from the suspect, police found five hand grenades, C4 explosives, sixty-two 9mm bullets, nine 7mm bullets, a T56 assault rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition, a long-range semi-automatic rifle, a magazine, two detonator cords, 62 detonators of different kinds, five MGM bullets, a knife, a camera, a pair of binoculars, seven laptops, a dongle, four mobile phones, four T-shirts with LTTE founder Velupillai Prabhakaran's photograph and a black mask.


The police also took into custody the suspect's 28-year-old wife and a 23-year-old female relative of hers. – The Island/Asia News Network
