SHAH ALAM: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam has been charged at a magistrate's court here on Tuesday (Oct 15) for incitement over a video he uploaded to his YouTube channel on a road rage incident.

The 46-year-old was charged under Section 505(C) of the Penal Code for making, publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report with the intent to incite or which is likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons.

Lokman claimed trial to the charge.

According to the facts of the case, Lokman had allegedly uploaded a seven minute, six second video entitled "Dukacita Dimaklumkan Bahawa Pembunuh Arwah Syed Danial Pula Bakal Terlepas (It is announced with sadness that the late Syed Danial's murderer will be freed)".

Syed Muhammad Danial Syed Syakir, 29, died after he was involved in a road rage incident with another individual at KM293.5 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) on Aug 10. Yew Wei Liang, 40, had since been charged for murder.

Lokman had allegedly committed the offence at between 1am on Aug 12 to 11.59pm the following day.

If found guilty, he is liable to be jailed up to two years, a fine or both.

Proposing bail at RM10,000, DPP Mohd Sopian Zakaria said it was a serious offence, adding that the video posted by Lokman had elements that instigated the public as well as stoked racial sentiments.

However, Lokman's defence counsel N. Logendran said his client could only afford to fork out RM2,000 for bail.

"My client has been without a job for 13 months. He was the communications director with the Finance Ministry but was sacked when the government changed," he said, adding that Lokman was also married with 11 children, three of whom are adopted.

Two of the adopted children are Indonesian while one is Rohingya.

Out of the 11 children, three are pursuing tertiary education, two in secondary school, three in primary school while two are still infants.

Logendran also said Lokman suffered from acute diabetes and his vision was affected.

Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and fixed Nov 19 for mention.
