PUTRAJAYA: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here for another day of questioning over the alleged misappropriation of RM800,000 in Yayasan Akal Budi funds.

Zahid, who wore an olive green batik shirt, arrived in a white Toyota Lexus sports utility vehicle at 9.16am. He waved and smiled at reporters who waited outside the MACC building.

This is Zahid's fourth visit to the MACC headquarters since July. He spent more than eight hours at the MACC headquarters yesterday.

His daughter Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid and brother, Datuk Seri Mohamad Nasaee Ahmad Tarmizi, were also summoned by the MACC yesterday to have their statements recorded to facilitate its investigation into the case.

According to previous reports, Zahid had been asked to explain claims that RM800,000 in Yayasan Akal Budi funds were used to pay off credit card bills belonging to him and his wife.

Zahid is the chairman of Yayasan Akal Budi, a foundation that was set up in 1977 with the aim of eradicating poverty.

He has denied allegations of any wrongdoing, saying his officer had mistakenly used the foundation's money to pay off the credit card bills. Zahid had also said he reimbursed the foundation in 2016.

In July, Zahid was quizzed for more than eight hours by MACC in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

In 2015, Zahid was reported to have said that he had met a member of the Saudi royal family and had claimed that the Saudi ruler had given a RM2.6 billion donation to Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who was then prime minister. -- Reporting by Manirajan Ramasamy, Nor Azizah Mokhtar, Fahmy Azril Rosli © New Straits Times Press
