SHAH ALAM: Police have confirmed a device found on a table at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium during the Kuala Selangor PKR division election is a gadget to block telecommunication signals, or what is known as a jammer.

Kuala Selangor police chief Md Asri A Wahab said an investigation revealed it was a “Mobile Phone Jammer 6 Antennas”.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for sabotage which carries a jail term of not less than one year and not exceeding five years or fine or both if found guilty.

A police report was lodged by Kuala Selangor PKR Youth head R. Sabahbathi at the Kuala Selangor police station at about 2pm.

According to Asri, the jammer was found in the seating area of the stadium by a Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) cleaner.

The Kuala Selangor PKR division election scheduled today was postponed as there was no telecommunication signal.

PKR will decide a new date for the division election.

Kuala Selangor PKR division head Juwairiya Zulkifli when contacted, did not rule out the device was placed as an attempt to reduce the percentage of turnout.

“When a postponement occurs, the percentage of votes will fall as voters are disappointed, thus lowering the number of votes received by both PKR deputy president, Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli.

“I hope party supporters and members will remain calm and continue to support the party,” he said.
