MACC raids Irwan’s house in Putrajaya

Former treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah was arrested at 3.35pm today. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today raided the home of former treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah shortly after he was arrested.
A source from MACC told FMT that anti-graft officers raided Irwan’s home in Putrajaya at 4pm.
“But the officers did not seize any of his belongings.”
Irwan was arrested by MACC officers at 3.35pm, hours after he arrived for questioning.
Former prime minister Najib Razak, who was also summoned for questioning by anti-graft officers, left the MACC headquarters at 5pm after giving his statement.
It is believed that both of them would jointly face at least six charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), involving RM6 billion, at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Thursday.
FMT reported yesterday that the charges are said to be linked to the 1MDB scandal, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and two gas pipeline projects in the peninsula and Sabah.
A source had told FMT that Najib and Irwan may also face charges of using approved government allocations to settle 1MDB’s dispute with the International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC).
1MDB agreed to settle a payment dispute with IPIC by making two instalments totalling US$1.2 billion to IPIC sometime in August and December last year.
After Pakatan Harapan took over the federal government, Irwan’s service contract as treasury secretary-general was shortened to June 14 and he was transferred to the Public Service Department.
