KUALA LUMPUR: Tapah MP M. Saravanan has won the contest for the MIC deputy president’s post for the 2018-2021 term.

He got 9,391 votes, defeating former Perak MIC chairman M. Ramasamy, who obtained 5,270 votes.

The result was announced by the party’s election committee chairman G. Rajoo today.

He also announced the winners for the three vice-president posts. They are incumbent T. Mohan, former MIC Youth chief C. Sivaraajh and former Central Working Committee member T. Murugiah.

“About 58% of the more than 26,000 MIC members who are eligible discharged their responsibility in yesterday’s party election, said Rajoo.

Among those elected to the 21 CWC seats are former deputy education minister P. Kamalanathan.

Meanwhile, at the same event, MIC president S. Vigneswaran said the party would remain in Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said although BN was no longer the ruling party, MIC would continue to stay as a coalition partner until a decision was reached together with other BN component parties.

He said BN should be put on the right track first.
