PKR’s deputy president post Election Update : Azmin with 14,315, takes slim lead while Rafizi -12,948.

Azmin edges Rafizi in Selangor, but contest still neck and neck

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli, who are vying for, are still neck and neck – signalling that the contest could go down to the wire in what has been a rollercoaster of an election for the reformist party.

However, Azmin, the incumbent deputy president, solidified his lead in Selangor in the second phase of the state’s party election on Sunday involving the divisions of Puchong, Gombak, Petaling Jaya (PJ) Utara, PJ Selatan, Kuala Langat, Klang and Selayang.

According to the election’s official website www.pemilihankeadilan2018.com, Azmin, who is also Economic Affairs Minister, polled 4,978 votes; while Rafizi, who is also a PKR vice president, garnered 4,385.

This takes the total number of votes obtained by Azmin in Selangor so far to 14,315, while Rafizi has obtained 12,948.

Selangor has the most number of registered PKR members eligible to vote with 249,850 people.

The final phase of the polls in Selangor on Oct 28 will involve six more divisions: Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor, Ampang, Pandan, Shah Alam and Hulu Langat.

Meanwhile, in Perlis, Rafizi gained an edge over Azmin by clinching 400 votes over Azmin’s 334.

Voter turnout in the state however, was disappointing, with just 20 per cent of the registered 5,490 members showing up.

In Negri Sembilan’s polls on Saturday, Rafizi triumphed albeit by a slim margin, winning in five out of eight divisions, namely Rembau, Seremban, Rasah, Tampin and Jelebu.

Based on unofficial results released at 6.30pm on Sunday, Rafizi received 3,053 votes, while Azmin polled 2,962.

The former Selangor Menteri Besar won in the divisions of Kuala Pilah, Telok Kemang and Jempol.

Rafizi, who is the former Pandan MP, has so far won the contests in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and the Federal Territories, while Azmin has dominated in Penang, Johor and the first phase of Selangor’s elections. © New Straits Times
