PUTRAJAYA: Former Tabung Haji chairman Azeez Abdul Rahim was released from remand by the Magistrate’s Court here today after being held for nine days since Sept 26 to facilitate investigations into a corruption case.

Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hasan freed the Baling MP as the remand period expired today.

Azeez arrived at court at 9.40am where he was greeted by some 130 supporters from his constituency who had been waiting at the main entrance since 7.15am.

A source said three buses had been chartered to bring them to Putrajaya today.

Pemantau Malaysia Baru president Lokman Noor Adam was seen among the crowd of supporters.

Azeez, his older brother and his cousin were remanded on Sept 26 for investigation under Section 16 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Azeez, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, was arrested two weeks ago after giving his statement at the MACC headquarters here.
