PUTRAJAYA: Former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi left the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here after being questioned for more than eight hours today.
Zahid was called in for the second time over allegations of abuse of funds from his family-run foundation, Yayasan Akal Budi.
“I will choose my own date and time,” Zahid said when asked whether he would return to MACC for further questioning.
It is understood that Zahid will continue to give his statement tomorrow morning.
Zahid did not answer any queries on whether his daughter, Nurulhidayah, was also questioned today.
However, on Zahid’s Twitter, he said he and eldest daughter Nurulhidayah had completed giving their statements today.
“We are now on our way home,” he tweeted, showing a selfie with Nurulhidayah.
Nurulhidayah was spotted leaving MACC building earlier than her father. She rushed to her car in the rain without speaking to reporters.
Zahid arrived at the MACC headquarters before 9.30am today, giving the media the slip as he arrived ahead of his appointment at 10am.
In July, during his last meeting with MACC, Zahid said a sum of RM800,000 had been reimbursed to the foundation two years ago.
He blamed a foundation’s employee for making a mistake in issuing a cheque from the foundation to pay for his credit card bills.
Zahid said he had earlier instructed the employee to prepare the payment from his personal bank account.
The same month, MACC also questioned Zahid over an alleged meeting with a member of Saudi Arabia’s royal family in 2015 said to have donated money to former prime minister Najib Razak.
The investigations on the royal family member were related to state investment company, 1MDB.
