SEPANG: Four university students – three foreigners and a Malaysian – have been nabbed in connection with the fatal hit-and-run accident in Cyberjaya.
The suspects – a 22-year-old Yemeni man, two Libyan men aged 20 and 24, and a 32-year-old woman from Sabah – were brought to the Sepang magistrate’s court yesterday where they were remanded for four days.
All are students of an international university in Cyberjaya.
The accident victim, Wan Amirah Wan Alias, 31, an assistant manager with Unifi, died at Hospital Putrajaya at 5am on Thursday.
Subsequently, police arrested the two Libyans and the Sabahan at Verdi Residence, Symphony Hills, Cyberjaya.
“The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was seized.
“One of the men admitted to driving the vehicle when the accident occurred,” he said.
CCTV footage showing Wan Amirah was hit by a car and dragged along the street at Shaftsbury Square in Cyberjaya as she was crossing the road at 7.30pm on Wednesday went viral, triggering outrage on social media.
The incident has angered Cyberjaya residents, who said rampant reckless driving was an issue there.
A distraught aunt of Wan Amirah, Thana Abdullah, had on Thursday called on netizens to help police find the culprit of the hit-and-run tragedy.
“She was 10 when her mother passed away. She was like a daughter to me,” Thana told The Star.
