"This film is made by a truly multi-racial team of directors and actors in the spirit of New Malaysia," said producer Fred Chong during his speech.

Chong, whose past productions under his Prodigee Film banner include "Nasi Lemak 2.0", "Hantu Gangster", "Kara King" and "Banglasia", stated that inclusivity has always been a part of his movies, which are often rooted in reality as they are based on true events that took place in Malaysia.

He admitted that he turned his focus elsewhere after "Banglasia" was banned in Malaysia but decided to make a return to his home country after being inspired by the historic and momentous GE14.

"I hope all Malaysians will watch "Rise" and remember that this is just the beginning of our journey to becoming a united and prosperous nation again," he said.

Directed by Saw Teong Hin, Nik Amir Mustapha and Prem Nath, "Rise: Ini Kalilah" tells of the frantic few days leading up to the biggest election in the nation.

The story is told through six different characters, whose paths will all cross at the same time and place on 9 May 2018.

Remy Ishak plays Azman, a policeman who reluctantly turns a blind eye to the misconducts of political figures prior to the election; Sangeeta Krishnasamy plays Shanti, a primary school music teacher volunteering as a Polling and Counting Agent (PACA) whose opposing views often put her and her father at loggerheads; and Jack Tan plays her love interest, Leong, a hot-headed juvenile delinquent who returns home from Singapore to cast his vote during the election.
