PETALING JAYA: Certain government officials have not received their wages as they are suspected of being ‘obsessed’ with the previous Barisan Nasional government, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said every cabinet minister had the right to appoint an officer to handle the ministry’s operations and management, subject to certain criteria.

He said for example, government officials needed to be committed to the national development agenda and not be obsessed with the previous administration.

“Even though they (government officials) were approved by me, they have not received wages for four months because there is something wrong with their appointments.

“However, once Cabinet decides that (they are not obsessed with the old government), they will be paid.

“In this administration, there are stubborn people who refuse their new appointments. Instead, they are still influenced by the previous government. I don’t know why,” he told reporters after chairing a Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council meeting at Menara Yayasan Selangor here today.

Dr Mahathir said after checks, the government had no choice but to drop certain officers who remained adamant about supporting the previous BN government.

He said the move was to ensure that the current administration could run smoothly.

“There are those who we had to redesignate or drop entirely,” he added. © New Straits Times
