KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, graced Yassin and doa recital event in conjunction with the national-level 2018 Maal Hijrah celebration at the Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan on Monday night.

The King’s arrival at 6.54pm was greeted by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as well as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Mujahid, in his speech, said there is a need to correct the negative perception of Islam as a cruel, rigid and uncompromising religion, in order to uphold Islam in the country. gn4id:9607149

“The framework of ‘fiqh’ (Islamic jurisprudence) should be viewed in a wider and more universal scope based on the reality of local cultures without sacrificing basic Muslim principles, in line with current needs.

“In line with the change in the nation’s administration, the continuing reformation agenda, covering Islamic development aspects, is also given attention to spur a more dynamic, competent and competitive management of Islam.

“The message of Islam, which is peace, justice and rejection of racial fanatics, must continue to be disseminated to the people,” he said.

He said the theme of this year’s Maal Hijrah celebration, ‘Menyantuni Umat Membawa Rahmat’, contains a key message on sharing noble values in lines with the principles of Maqasid Syariah (Islamic standards).

“The overall beauty of Islam has to be highlighted to ensure that Islam is placed as a noble example for all, regardless of race or religion.

“The message of Islam has to be presented with values such as love, tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation,” he said.
