Bahrain King arrives in Malaysia for four-day state visit

SEPANG: King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain arrived in Malaysia Sunday night for his maiden four-day state visit to the country until May 3.
The aircraft carrying the King and his delegation arrived at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here at 11.30pm.
The King who ascended the throne on March 6, 1999, was greeted on arrival by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
The visit, at the invitation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, is the first to be made by a Ruler of Bahrain since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1974.
This is part of his series of visits to Southeast Asian nations and he is scheduled to depart for Brunei after his visit to Malaysia.
As part of his visit here, King Hamad will meet Sultan Muhammad V and will be given a state welcome at Parliament House on May 1 and later, attend a State Banquet at Istana Negara.
The King is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya on Tuesday.
The two leaders are also scheduled to witness the signing of several memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including agreements on air services and defence collaboration. —BERNAMA
