10 CHAPS stores planned in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Luen Thai Retail Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which operates US-based fashion store chain CHAPS in Malaysia, aims to open seven to 10 retail shops throughout the country by the year-end.

The retail store chain, which comes under Hong Kong-based Luen Thai Enterprises, is a brand created by renowned American fashion designer Ralph Lauren that offers classic all-American styles.

Luen Thai Enterprises chief executive officer Willie Tan said the opening of the fashion store at Pavilion Elite in Kuala Lumpur was the first CHAPS store in South-East Asia.

The company also has opened its second store at 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya while the third outlet at MyTown Shopping Centre in Cheras is expected to be launched soon.

"Malaysia has great connection to other Asian countries, and Luen Thai believes its strategic location will be vital to the company's expansion plans," he told Bernama after the formal retail store launch at the Pavilion Elite on Tuesday.

On the company's sales target, Tan said the main focus right now is to create brand awareness in Malaysia, and it would set the sales target after having established a proper foothold in the country.

Currently, CHAPS offers a range of men and women's clothing while the children's collection will be available next month.

Luen Thai started the retail store chain in Asia in Shanghai in 2015, and has since expanded to over 40 brick-and-mortar stores across China. - Bernama
