Deputy minister's son among eight to be charged over Parliament ruckus

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight people including the son of a deputy minister will be charged in court over their alleged involvement in a ruckus on Parliament grounds in November last year.

City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh (pic) said that the eight will be charged on Friday as police have completed their investigations into the matter.

"They will be charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting," he said at a press conference at city police headquarters Thursday.

He added that the eight, aged between 33 and 55, included three women.

Firdaus Tajuddin, the son of Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, was allegedly part of a group from the Pasir Salak Umno Youth division that swarmed Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad as soon as he got out of his car at the entrance of the Dewan Rakyat in the Nov 24 incident.

A scuffle ensued, with one of the group members trying to land a punch on the Opposition MP, who was shielded by security personnel and escorted into Parliament.

The incident was believed to be over Khalid calling the deputy minister mentri sial (damned minister) in the Dewan Rakyat earlier.

Police later arrested 11 people, including Firdaus, over the incident.
