MIRI: Two teenaged boys, aged 18 and 19, have been arrested for attempting to rape a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
The girl, a Form Four student, broke her leg when she jumped out of a moving car to escape being raped by the two school-leavers whom she had befriended.
She is being treated at the Miri Hospital following the Monday incident.
City police chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat confirmed that police have detained the two boys for attempted rape.
"The two boys have been remanded for further investigation," he said when contacted on Wednesday.
The car used by the duo has also been seized.
The girl said she was in the car with the two for an outing when they drove to a secluded spot.
She said she jumped out of the car when one of the youths started "disturbing" her while inside the car.
She said she asked to be driven home but the duo instead drove to a secluded place.
It was then that she opened the car door and jumped from the vehicle.
The duo stopped the car after realising she was injured and drove her to the hospital and left her there before making off.
