PETALING JAYA, Oct 6 ― Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, 26, will be installed Selangor's 9th Raja Muda on Saturday at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.

The installation will be marked by ceremonies steeped in tradition.

It has been four decades since Sultan Sharafuddin was made Raja Muda in September 1960 at the age of 15, and fully installed as the 8th Raja Muda in 1970 at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.

Sultan Sharafuddin ascended to the throne as the 9th Sultan of Selangor on Nov 22, 2001 after his father, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, passed away a day earlier.

There will be two main ceremonies for the installation on Saturday, followed by a second ceremony the following Saturday.

It will be a momentous day for the people of Selangor.

Born on Dec 12, 1990, Tengku Amir Shah is the son of Sultan Sharafuddin and American Nurlisa Idris.

Tengku Amir Shah received his primary and secondary education at the Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur, and continued his studies at the Wellington College in the United Kingdom from 2004 to 2009.

He went on to obtain his Bachelor in Ecology and Environmental Biology degree at Leeds University in 2014.

As a prince who prefers outdoor activities, Tengku Amir Shah was involved in the military where he received strong support from his father.

Tengku Amir Shah underwent a rigorous military preparatory course at the Army Academy in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, from Sept 23 to Dec 5, 2014, before enrolling in the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, United Kingdom, where he completed his training with distinction on April 15.

Following this, he was commissioned as an army officer with the rank of Lieutenant with the 17th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RMR) in a ceremony at the 8th Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment camp in Malacca on July 16.

Tengku Amir Shah is also interested in a variety of sports such as golf and football and extreme sports such as water rafting, all-terrain vehicle riding, biking and paintball.
