TAIPING: A car ploughed into an accident where a lorry overturned at KM10.5 of the Taiping-Pantai Remis Road here early this morning, killing a teenager and injuring two policemen.

Police chief Asst Comm Harrith Kam Abdullah said Ahmed Fazlee Khamaruzaman, 32, and Nur Farhana Zainudin, 23, were directing traffic as 19-year-old Muhammad Azizi Osman was removing fishes from the road when a Volkswagen Passat rammed into them at 1.35am.

About 45 minutes earlier, a lorry had overturned and spilled its cargo of fish onto the road.

“Several others from a nearby village who were also picking up the fishes escape unhurt,” ACP Harrith Kam said.

He said Muhammad Azizi died of serious head injuries, while the policemen suffered injuries to the head and legs and were sent to the Taiping Hospital.

He said the road was at a bend and it was dark at the time.

“Our personnel were wearing reflector vests and had turned on the beacon lights,” he said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a navy officer from the Lumut Naval Base, is helping in the investigations.
