MARAN: The younger brother of Mohd Ridzuan Ismail, who is missing and believed to have been kidnapped in the waters off Tambisan, Lahad Datu, Sabah has described his elder brother as the main breadwinner of the family after their father died in 2001.

Mohd Raisuddin, 30, said Mohd Ridzuan, 32, the eldest of seven siblings started working after leaving school before becoming a sailor in 2010 and resided in Sabah after meeting his wife, Hariyanti Hamsih, 30, of Tawau.

"My brother has been sending money to us regularly as my youngest brother is still schooling but he seldom talks about his work.

"He only talks about fishing to kill boredom on the boat. Maybe he does not want us to worry about his job," he said when met at their family house in Jengka 7, here Tuesday.

Raisuddin added that the last time his brother returned to Jengka was in February 2013 about one week before their mother, Salmah Arsyad died.

Raisuddin added that his brother has three daughters, aged five, two and three months.

Elaborating on the incident, Raisuddin said he was informed by his brother-in-law by telephone at 8.50am and read about the incident on social media.

He later lodged a police report at the Jengka police station here Tuesday evening so that he could obtain reliable information from the authorities on his missing brother.

Mohd Ridzuan, one of the five crew members of a tugboat, was believed kidnapped when the tugboat was found abandoned with the engine running in the waters of Tambisan.

Also missing were Abd Rahim Summas, 62, the boat skipper of Kampung Tanjung Batu, Tawau; Tayudin Anjut, 45, of Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat, Tawau; Fandy Bakran, 26, of Kampung Pukat Tawau and Mohamad Jumadil Rahim, 23, of Batu 2, Jalan Apas, Tawau.

They were on their way from Sandakan to Semporna.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said police did not rule out the possibility they were kidnapped, even though police and family members had not received any call for ransom. – Bernama
