Rape of Underage Girl In Tioman DPM To ensure no one including government officers slip away from any action.

SUNGAI BESAR: The Deputy Prime Minister said there would be no cover up in criminal cases involving government officers including the case of a girl who was sexually raped and abused in Pulau Tioman.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would ensure no one escaped punishment if there were evidence of them committing the crime.

“I will ensure no one including government officers slip away from any action.

“Actions will be taken against any police officers who covered up (cases involving government officers),” he told reporters.

He was commenting on a English daily (The Star) report on an underaged girl who was repeatedly raped and sexually abused by five men including a Customs officer in Pulau Tioman.

According to the report which quoted the statement of Rompin police chief DSP Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah, six individuals including a woman were detained to assist in investigation in the case but denied the involvement of a Customs personnel.

Earlier Ahmad Zahid spent about 20 minutes meeting with media representatives of various agencies at the media centre of the Sungai Besar by-election in Kompit Hotel here today.

The by-election was held following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.

The Election Commission had fixed June 18 as polling day and early voting would be held on June 14. --BERNAMA
