Police Inspector, Single Mother Charged For Robbing RM620,000


KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- A police inspector and a single mother were charged in the Session's Court here today for committing gang robbery involving RM620,000, belonging to a money-changer outlet.

Inspector M. Ruben, 30, and N. Pugunaswary, 40, the mother of three children pleaded not guilty before judge Shamsudin Abdullah.

The duo, together with another suspect still at large, were accused of robbing a beg containing RM620,000, belonging to Syarikat Spectrum Forex at Jalan Maarof, Brickfields, here, about 12.20 pm on February 10.

Judge Shamsudin allowed both accused a bail of RM10,000 with one surety and to report to the Klang district police headquarters (IPD) every month.

The court set Feb 19 for re-mention of the case and also fixed Feb 25 for managing the case.

The trial is fixed to be heard on March 4 and March 10.

Ruben, who worked in the Klang district police headquarters, was represented by counsel Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent, while Pugunaswary, a money dispatcher at the company was represented by S. Ruban.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa appeared for the prosecution in accordance to Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and liable to whipping upon conviction.
