KUALA LUMPUR: A man was apprehended by members of the public after he allegedly assaulted employees of a health and beauty store along Jalan Sentul here in a botched robbery.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said the two female employees were on duty when the incident occurred at around 1.30pm Friday.
"The 33-year-old supervisor was working in the office located at the back of the store.
"The cashier was manning the cash register when a man entered the store and instructed her to go into the office.
"The supervisor saw everything unfold from the closed circuit television," he said.
The man shoved the cashier into the office, flashed a knife at the supervisor and demanded she surrender her belongings.
"She refused to surrender her belongings. The suspect snatched keys to a safety deposit box from her, punched her face and shoved her to the floor.
"He unlocked the deposit box and stole all the store's earnings which came up to RM 1500. The suspect instructed the victims to turn around as he fled the scene," ACP Munusamy said.
According to ACP Munusamy, the determined supervisor chased after the suspect and shouted for help from passers-by.
"A witness joined in the chase, and with the help of other passers-by, they managed to apprehend him before handing him over to the police.
"The suspect is a 41-year-old man from Gombak. He has no previous criminal record," he said.
The store employees managed to recover the stolen loot.
The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
