Police: Woman who killed sons had no mental illness history

THE STAR
SUNGAI PETANI: The 35-year-old woman who killed her two young sons in a house in Taman Wira Indah here is said to have suffered a mental breakdown.
Kedah CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Nashir Ya said the woman was warded at the psychiatric ward of the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for tests to determine if she had had a breakdown.
“Based on the hospital record, she does not have a history of mental illness. We have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.”
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Md Zukil Md Isa said the woman would be remanded for seven days pending investigations into the incident.
The bodies of the five-year-old boy and his three-year-old brother were found by their grandfather at 3.20pm on Tuesday in a room while their mother was found in another room. A post-mortem showed that their throats had been slit and one of them also had a cut on the wrist.
Their father, 36, who is a chef in Singapore, turned up together with his parents and several close relatives at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital to claim the bodies at about 1pm yesterday.
The bodies were cremated at the Sungai Pasir crematorium at about 5pm.
A neighbour said she frequently saw the woman and her two sons walking around the residential area.
“She looked like a good mother so I was shocked to hear what had happened. I never heard any quarrels in the house.”
Meanwhile, Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said she was saddened to hear about the incident.
“I would like to urge those suffering from depression or having a hard time dealing with emotional problems to seek counselling.
“The welfare department will be assisting the family,” she said after opening the 2nd International Social Work Conference 2015 at a hotel in George Town.
