PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Tony Fernandes (pic) has taken a dig at the recently-announced hike in Express Rail Link (ERL) fares, with the AirAsia Bhd Group chief saying it is "cheaper to fly".
"On the ERL. It's a great product but it's expensive. Don't understand. They got all of Airasia passengers. Cheaper to fly," he tweeted on Monday.
Fernandes continued by saying that they become unpopular fighting against cost increases and asking others in the aviation industry to be more efficient to save the people.
On Dec 1, Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd said the new fare for a one-way trip between KL Sentral and KLIA/KLIA2 would be RM55, up from RM35 before.
It said that the price revision was approved by the Government through the Land Public Transport Commission in accordance with Section 120 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and the first revision since it commenced operations almost 14 years ago.
Recognising public anger over the matter, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced discounts of up to 50% for pupils, university students, the disabled and senior citizens using the Express Rail Link (ERL) and KTM Komuter.
