Cops seeking Australian actress in custody battle case

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for Australian actress Eliza Szonert who allegedly abducted her son from her former husband Ashley Crick at a restaurant here last week.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Law Hong Soon said Szonert had promised to be present at the police station Monday to give her statement, however, there was no sign of the woman.

"We will track her down soon to help in investigations. Do not run or hide," he told reporters after a crime prevention and blood donation campaign Tuesday.

Law was also confident that the woman was still in the country but had contacted the Australian High Commission here to seek its help in the case.

Reports quoted The Sydney Morning Herald as saying that Szonert was accompanied by two men to a restaurant in a shopping complex to meet Crick Thursday before she fled with their son.

It was reported that Szonert came to Malaysia with her son to live with Crick, who stayed and worked here, before a row erupted between them.

The actress had reportedly failed to return to Australia with the couple's son as Crick was believed to be keeping her passport.

Crick then lodged a police report at the Brickfields police station on the night of the incident. - BERNAMA
