Budget 2016 was passed in Parliament tonight with a normal voice vote without any resistance from the opposition.

Pakatan Harapan lawmakers did not call for a bloc vote to attempt to stop the budget from being passed, which meant that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has survived attempts of a no-confidence stance against his administration despite recent controversies surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion donation in his personal accounts.

Pakatan had attempted to vote out the budget at policy stage but were outnumbered as only 74 MPs voted against moving the budget to committee stage.

The Home Ministry and Education Ministry were the last ministries to wind up debates at the committee stage before the budget was consolidated and passed.

Pakatan also moved a no-confidence motion in Parliament, filed by opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, but the motion was never read out or put to a vote as government affairs were prioritised.

The federal budget is worth RM267 billion.

Najib was facing increasing pressure to step down over his brainchild 1MDB's mounting debts, which stood at more than RM42 billion.

Najib had also denied allegations that the RM2.6 billion was from 1MDB-linked companies, saying instead that it was a donation from the Middle East.

It was reported that Najib would answer questions on the donation in this Parliament session, which has two more days of sitting left. – December 1, 2015.
