KEMAMAN: Former Terengganu mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has claimed once more that Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) had attempted to use the state’s oil and gas as collateral.
“I am not creating a story here. Even the Terengganu Sultan knew of the attempt by 1MDB’s predecessor, TIA,” he said in a speech here.
Ahmad Said, who was speaking at the opening of the Kemaman Umno division delegates meeting on Friday, added that that this was not a sensational story and that he was willing to swear to defend it
TIA was formed in 2008 to manage and invest the royalties from the state’s petroleum resources. It became 1Malaysia Development Berhad in 2009 after the Federal government took over.
Similar claims by Ahmad Said were refuted in May by Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.
“No such thing. Our exco would not have agreed as we also have a team of experts to advise us and that would not have happened.
“In fact, Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) does not have any relation with 1MDB,” he had said.
