    BUTTERWORTH: Police have detained the suspect who was involved in gunning down of a 31-year-old debt collector who was riding his motorcycle in Taman Carissa Villa, Mak Mandin, near here on Tuesday night.
    North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said on Saturday that a police team led by Asst Supt Mohd Yusof Ibrahim raided a kampong house in Jalan Kubang Semang, Permatang Pauh near here at 8.10pm on Friday.
    The raiding team detained the suspect aged 29 and also recovered a browning pistol in the house.
    “Police brought the suspect to the Sungai Prai besides the Tuanku Abdul Rahman bridge where he claimed that he had thrown the pistol used in the shooting incident on Tuesday night.
    “We managed to obtain a remand order from the magistrate court here to detain the suspect for one week,” ACP Abdul Rahman told reporters at the scene where the suspect claimed to have thrown the weapon into the river.
    Also present were deputy OCPD Mohd Sukri Awang and ASP Mohd Yusof.
    ACP Abdul Rahman said the search is being conducted in the river involving six marine police personnel.
    He said the suspect who is still single, operates a coffee shop in Seberang Jaya near here has four previous records for robbery cases.
    “Initial investigations reveal the motive as provocation,” he said and added that the case is considered to be solved.
    The victim, Goh Wooi Loon, was found in a pool of blood in an alley behind the shop lots in Taman Carissa Villa.
    It is believed that the assailant had tailed Goh, who is from Taman Bagan Ajam, before shooting him.
    Police rushed to the scene and found the body at about 7.20pm on Tuesday.
    The victim had no criminal record was riding his motorcycle and was believed to have been chased by the assailant.
    The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
