KUALA LUMPUR, May 2, 2015:
A female motorist was arrested and police are looking for another driver following the multi-vehicle crash which killed a family of three along the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (Duke-Damansara bound) early today.
The 35-year-old woman, who also sustained injuries, was taken into custody after she sought treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
“We know the identity of the second driver involved in the crash,” Kuala Lumpur Staff Officer for Traffic Investigation and Regulation Deputy Superintendent Markandan Subramaniam told The Rakyat Post.The three vehicles have been seized by police and investigations have been classified under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
“The female motorist sustained lip injuries and was given outpatient treatment.”
The horrific road crash took place at Km6 of the Duke stretch at 1.05am as victim Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, was driving his Mitsubishi Pajero towards Ampang.
Also on board were Nova Safitri Azhari, 27, and their infant daughter, Nur Firuza Annisa.
They were returning home after attending a wedding reception in Putrajaya.
Eyewitnesses said several cars were speeding along Duke when a Perodua Myvi rear-ended the Pajero.
The impact resulted in the Pajero losing control and swerving towards the left lane.
A second Perodua Myvi car crashed into the Pajero forcing it to roll over several times.
All three occupants were flung out of the Pajero and Fairuz died on the spot.
Nova Safitri and her daughter were pronounced dead upon admission to the hospital.
The crash brought traffic along Duke to a standstill as passing motorists pulled over to have a look and render assistance.
Citizen journalists and social media buffs took pictures of the tragedy and uploaded them on various social networking sites.
The bodies were claimed by relatives for burial today.
The couple have two other daughters, Nur Firuza Amira, 7, and Nur Firuza Akila, 3.
