3/5/2015

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark is through to the quarterfinals of the BMW Malaysian Open 2015 after she won her last 16 match against China’s World No 122 Zhu Lin in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
After rainfall earlier in the evening, all eyes were on Centre Court as Zhu surprised Wozniacki in the first set by going head to head with the former World No 1. With the score tied at 4-4, Wozniacki held serve and a couple of unforced errors by Zhu allowed Wozniacki to win the first set.
In the second set, Zhu again worked tirelessly to take the fight to Wozniacki as she went for all the shots, but the Dane flexed her superiority to overpower Zhu and take the second set 6-1 to win the match and book her place in the quarterfinals.
“That was my first time playing Zhu and she played a flat game, she was aggressive throughout the match and credit to her for playing a good match, especially in the first set. For tomorrow’s quarterfinal match I will be out there fighting to win and do my best,” said Wozniacki.
World No 81 Carina Witthoeft of Germany is on her way to her first Quarterfinal of a WTA tournament when she defeated World No 92 Klara Koukalova of The Czech Republic in straight sets 7-6, 6-0.
In her previous first round match, Witthoeft worked hard to dispose of World No 100 Misaki Doi of Japan in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. In her match against Koukalova, Witthoeft started strongly and she commented, “I started really good against Koukalova, but I knew she was going to be a tough opponent and indeed she was, as she fought point for point with me in the first set. In the second set however, I was not going to have a repeat of the first set, so I put a lot of pressure on her and I took my chances when I could which eventually paid off with me winning the match.”
She continued by saying, “I played aggressively against Koukalova and I was not going to let up. In my next match which will be the first quarterfinal of my career, I will be playing aggressively as well as I intend to continue with my good run in this tournament.”
Next, Witthoeft will be up against the tournament’s top seeded Dane Wozniacki. “I look forward to playing Wozniacki, as not only will it be my first time playing her, but it will be my first time playing a top ten player. I will be bringing my best game to the hard court tomorrow evening,” said Witthoeft.
The tennis action continues to heat up on the hard courts of The Royal Selangor Golf Club as both singles and doubles players battle it out in the final stages of the tournament in their quest for the coveted titles.
