Dress code circular after alleged topless sunbathing
LOKKAWI: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun will issue a
circular to tourist agencies in Sabah to ensure that their guests are properly dressed while
visiting islands in the State.
Speaking to reporters after attending World Wildlife Day held at Lokkawi Wildlife Park near here yesterday, Masidi said this was because of an incident involving two women tourists who were allegedly spotted sun bathing topless at Sulug Island recently.
He said tourist agencies were responsible in advising their guests to dress decently to respect other visitors to the islands, particularly children.
He also said the case was being investigated by Sabah Parks and that he was waiting for the outcome from the investigation.
Masidi however raised doubt over the topless sun bathhing claim as Sulug Island was abandoned and did not have a jetty.
“The question is how the family who claimed to have seen the tourists were on the island when it doesn’t have any jetty? How did they arrive there?”
He added that Sabah Parks would increase its monitoring on the island and that if the incident transpired, action would will be taken.
At the same time, Masidi also commented on the restructuring of Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD).
He said the matter was being discussed with the director of SWD and a statement on the restructuring would be forwarded later.
He said the restructuring had been done aggressively.
